In photography, lens flare is an optical phenomenon where light reflects inside the lens and scatters. The likelihood of flare occurring increases with the number of optical elements in the lens; the more lens elements there are, the greater the chance that light will reflect and scatter. Flare occurs when a light source is present within the frame and produces two effects: the appearance of colored circles of light (varying in size) on your image, and a hazy, veiled effect.
