Stephanie Gilmore is an icon of women’s surfing and the greatest female surfer in the sport’s history. Born on January 29, 1988, she is an Australian athlete.
She wasted no time breaking into the global surfing elite, joining the WCT at the age of 17 in 2005. That year, competing as a wildcard entry, she became the youngest surfer ever to win a Championship Tour event.

She qualified for the WCT full-time in 2007 and achieved a remarkable double feat: winning the world title (after triumphing in four competitions!) and the “Rookie of the Year” award.
It was the first time a female surfer had been crowned world champion in her debut year on the circuit—a testament to her outstanding performance.
Since then, the Australian surfer has significantly expanded her list of achievements in women’s surfing, securing eight world titles to date (as of 2026).

This latest triumph established her as the first surfer to amass so many world titles—cementing her status as a true surfing legend.
